The University of Barishal (BU) conferred the prestigious “Dean’s Merit Award 2026” upon 109 outstanding students from seven faculties, recognizing their academic excellence and commitment. Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan handed over the awards as the chief guest during a ceremony held at the university’s Kirtankhola Auditorium.
Addressing the audience, the Information Minister underscored that knowledge, science, and technology remain the core drivers of global leadership in the modern era. He noted that natural resources alone cannot guarantee sustainable progress without intellectual advancement. Emphasizing the role of youth, he remarked that nurturing knowledge-driven leadership is crucial for building a prosperous and resilient nation in the coming days.
Professor Dr. Md. Mamun Or Rashid, Vice-Chancellor of BU, commended the awardees for their hard work, describing the achievement as a stepping stone for their future academic and professional endeavors. He highlighted that providing structured guidance to bright minds will enable them to contribute meaningfully to society and bring laurels to the nation on both domestic and international fronts.
Chaired by Dr. Hafiz Ashraful Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, the event was attended by deans of various faculties, department chairs, faculty members, and proud parents. Student representatives Ashikur Rahman and Iti Khan Mitu shared their experiences, expressing gratitude for the institutional recognition that will propel their future aspirations.
