Nearly three months after the assassination of Sharif Osman Hadi, the convener of Inqilab Mancha, his family has expressed deep frustration over the delay in filing a formal chargesheet. During a press conference held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the Nalchity Press Club, Hadi’s sister, Masuma Hadi, demanded that the authorities bring back the shooters arrested in India and expose the entire ring behind the targeted killing. The family warned that they would not accept any “superficial investigation” or “staged legal drama.”
Masuma Hadi recounted the harrowing incident of December 12, when gunmen Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hussain opened fire on her brother in broad daylight in Dhaka. Despite receiving advanced medical care in Singapore, Hadi succumbed to his injuries. The family raised serious questions about how the prime suspects managed to flee across the border to India despite the high-profile nature of the crime. Following their recent arrest in West Bengal, the family is now urging the government to invoke the existing extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India.
The family further called for a transparent investigation, possibly under UN supervision, to ensure international standards of justice. They stressed that arresting the shooters is not enough; the masterminds, financiers, and those who facilitated the escape must be identified and prosecuted. “Eighty-seven days have passed, and the lack of a credible chargesheet is creating a climate of anxiety and distrust,” Masuma added, appealing directly to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his intervention.
The press conference concluded with a demand for state security for Hadi’s surviving family members, who feel increasingly vulnerable. They issued a stern warning that if a flawed investigation report is submitted, the people of the country will be mobilized for a mass movement. The family emphasized that they seek nothing less than the absolute truth regarding who ordered the hit on the young leader.
