TBM Report

Properly educated and skilled young individuals will not only transform Bangladesh but also become global assets, stated Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Professor Dr. A Z M Zaid Hossain. He identified youth as the primary force driving the nation’s future trajectory.

The Minister made these remarks on Wednesday while inaugurating a two-day event organized by Save the Children at ‘Aloki’ in Tejgaon to mark International Youth Day.

Reaffirming the government’s mandate to establish an inclusive and humane society, Dr. Zaid stated that this vision goes beyond rhetoric and requires active participation across all social demographics.

Highlighting the need to capitalize on the country’s demographic dividend, the Minister urged young people to focus on vocational and technical education rather than relying solely on traditional academic streams. He encouraged the youth to embrace entrepreneurship, noting that government institutions are offering trade-based training and seed funding to aspiring business owners. A dedicated BDT 500 crore start-up fund has also been allocated in the national budget to support new ventures.

Other speakers at the event underscored the importance of demand-driven skill development aligned with evolving market dynamics, prompting youth to step up as innovators, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers.

The inauguration was attended by Suman Sengupta, Country Director of Save the Children; Jaouad Azaoui, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; Professor Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB); alongside civil society leaders and development partners.
