The grim discovery was made on Wednesday, June 3, around 4:30 PM, when police extracted the bodies of Iti Rani (34) and her daughters, Aradha Biswas (12) and Anuradha Biswas (3), from two separate rooms on the third floor of the bungalow. Although the local police administration initially postulated a murder-suicide hypothesis—suggesting Rani had asphyxiated her children before ending her own life based on preliminary CCTV and forensic analyses—the victim’s family vehemently rejected the assessment. The family’s persistent demands for justice triggered massive public outrage, resulting in a large-scale protest march and human chain in Barguna municipality on June 4, where demonstrators blocked the streets with the victims’ coffins following the autopsy.
The complainant, Dulal Chandra Biswas, disclosed that his efforts to seek immediate legal recourse were severely hampered by institutional challenges, alleging that law enforcement officials initially pressured him to substitute the primary complainant and that his subsequent petition to the judicial court faced procedural delays. OC Abdul Alim countered that the police department is maintaining full transparency and awaiting the comprehensive post-mortem and forensic toxicological findings to conclusively determine the cause of death and apprehend potential suspects.
