Bangladesh Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan has categorically dismissed rumors regarding the scratching of Bachelor of Arts (Honors) courses in six fundamental disciplines, including Bengali, History, and Philosophy. Addressing journalists at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the Minister clarified that no administrative or policy-level discussions have occurred concerning the reduction or dissolution of these core humanities programs within the national higher education framework. While the government remains strategically committed to expanding vocational and technical education, Minister Milan emphasized that such initiatives would not compromise the institutional status of foundational academic streams.
Echoing the state’s educational paradigm, Jahed Ur Rahman, the Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Advisor, reiterated during a separate press briefing that reports circulating in sections of digital and print media are speculative and unofficial. Advisor Rahman urged students, parents, and academic stakeholders to disregard unverified reports until explicit, formal circulars are issued by relevant ministries. He maintained that core cultural and philosophical disciplines represent the intellectual cornerstone of the nation’s higher education matrix and remain entirely insulated from structural downsizing.
Concurrently, National University (NU) authorities issued an emergency press release to pacify growing anxieties across its extensive network of affiliated colleges. The university administration declared unequivocally that neither the Ministry of Education nor the university’s academic council has formulated any resolutions to truncate or discontinue any existing undergraduate honors curriculum. Academic directors noted that traditional social science and humanities streams would continue uninterrupted, and advised enrollment candidates to focus on regular academic schedules rather than unsubstantiated claims.
