Shakib Al Hasan poised for comeback in Pakistan series, hopes BCB director Asif Akbar

TBM Report

After nearly two years of absence from the national squad, legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is expected to make a significant return in the upcoming series against Pakistan. Asif Akbar, a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), expressed optimism regarding Shakib’s return, provided the ongoing legal complexities surrounding him are resolved. The BCB has reportedly intensified its administrative efforts to ensure the player’s availability for the highly anticipated tour.

Shakib’s inability to represent the national side in home conditions stemmed from legal cases filed following the mass uprising in August. Addressing the situation, Asif Akbar revealed that Shakib’s case files have been forwarded to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for further review. BCB CEO and Vice President Farooq Ahmed have already briefed the relevant authorities on the matter. “Our primary responsibility is to present the documents to the ministry, and the final decision now rests with the government,” Akbar stated during a recent meeting with the Sports Minister.

The BCB remains hopeful as the current interim government has shown a positive inclination toward re-evaluating cases filed after August 5. Cricket analysts believe Shakib’s return would be a major boost for the team, especially given his immense experience in high-pressure matches. Fans across the nation are eagerly waiting for the legal green light, which could see Shakib donning the national jersey once again on home soil for the first time in months.
