The government executed a land transfer agreement handing over 54.99 acres of Jalil Textile Mills Limited to the Bangladesh Army. Located in Bhatiari, Chattogram, the property under Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) will now facilitate the expansion of the Bangladesh Ordnance Factory (BOF). Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the signing ceremony held on Thursday, August 27, aiming to bolster local defense production capabilities. Minister for Commerce, Industries, and Textiles & Jute, Khondokar Abdul Muktadir, attended as the chief guest.
Lieutenant General Mohammad Shaheenul Haque, Quartermaster General (QMG) of the Bangladesh Army, delivered the welcoming address. Following his speech, officials formally executed the transfer deed. The Chairman of BTMC represented the corporation, while the Military Estate Officer for the Eastern Circle (Chattogram) signed on behalf of the Bangladesh Army.
Following the signing, speeches were delivered by BTMC Chairman Brigadier General S M Zahid Hasan, Textiles and Jute Secretary Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury, and Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman. Defense Advisor to the Prime Minister, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. A K M Shamsul Islam, State Minister for Textiles & Jute Md. Shariful Alam, and Chief Guest Khondokar Abdul Muktadir also shared their evaluations.
Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for driving military modernization efforts. He expressed optimism that this development momentum will continue and thanked all involved agencies for their cooperation. Chief Guest Minister Muktadir underscored the government’s objective to elevate Bangladeshi products, including defense equipment, onto the international market.
As the nation’s sole arms and ammunition manufacturer, expanding BOF will reduce foreign defense dependency. Boosted domestic manufacturing of modern weaponry will enhance defense self-reliance while developing military technological capabilities.
High-ranking military and civil officials attended the ceremony, including the BOF Commandant, Acting ARTDUC GOC and BMA Commandant, EBRC Commandant, 24th Infantry Division GOC, Defense Secretary, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner, Chattogram DIG, and CDA Chairman.
