The High Court has granted bail to Selina Hayat Ivy, the former Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), in five separate cases, including four counts of murder. On Thursday, a bench led by Justice K.M. Zahid Sarwar Kajol issued the order. These cases are linked to incidents of violence during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Ivy was arrested in the early hours of May 9 last year from her residence, ‘Chunka Kutir,’ in Narayanganj. The murder cases, filed at Fatullah Police Station, involve the deaths of driver Abul Hossain Miji, Abdur Rahman, Md. Yeasin, and Parvez. An additional case regarding obstructing government duties was filed at Sadar Model Police Station.
Senior advocates Sara Hossain and Motahar Hossain Saju represented her in court. Ivy, who served as mayor for three consecutive terms, had earlier received bail in some cases, which was subsequently stayed by the Appellate Division. Today’s decision marks a significant legal victory for the veteran politician.
