Bangladesh recorded three more dengue-related fatalities and 512 new hospital admissions across the country in the last 24 hours ending Tuesday morning. According to the latest bulletin released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the fresh casualties have pushed the national death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 47 this year.
Region-wise data provided by health authorities indicates that Dhaka North City Corporation reported the highest number of new cases with 85 admissions, closely followed by Khulna division with 84 cases. Additionally, 76 patients were hospitalized in Dhaka South City Corporation, 75 in Barishal division, 75 in Chattogram division, 40 in Dhaka division (outside city corporation areas), 34 in Rajshahi, 28 in Rangpur, 13 in Mymensingh, and one in Sylhet division.
Epidemiological trends reveal a sharp escalation in dengue transmission during the ongoing monsoon season. Out of the 14,156 total dengue cases registered across the country so far this year, more than half—8,052 cases—were recorded in the current month alone. Health experts attribute this steep curve to stagnant rainwater accumulation, creating ideal breeding habitats for Aedes mosquitoes.
The fatality rate has also witnessed a concerning rise, with July accounting for 29 out of the total 47 deaths reported so far in the year. Official records show that two deaths were reported in January, two in February, one in May, and 13 in June. Public health officials urge citizens to maintain clean surroundings and eliminate standing water to curb vector proliferation.
