The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has officially lowered the price of gold in the domestic market, providing relief to retail consumers amid global financial shifts. According to the revised pricing index, the value of the finest quality 22-carat gold has been slashed by BDT 3,266 per bhari (11.664 grams), positioning the new consumer rate at BDT 225,290, inclusive of government-mandated Value Added Tax (VAT).
The trade association authorized the nationwide price adjustment through an emergency executive bulletin issued at noon on Monday (July 6, 2026). In its market directive, BAJUS confirmed that the price recalibration was enforced across all jewelry retail outlets and commercial hubs globally and locally, effective precisely from 12:15 PM onwards.
According to trade compliance officials, the pricing rollback was necessitated by a sharp downward correction in the value of pure gold, colloquially known as “Tejabi gold,” within the local bullion markets. Financial analysts noted that the stabilizing domestic demand coupled with liquidations in local physical gold reserves forced the tariff slash to protect the domestic retail volume.
Under the newly ratified statutory catalog, 21-carat gold will now retail at BDT 215,142 per bhari, down from previous historical highs. Concurrently, the rate for 18-carat jewelry gold has been re-anchored at BDT 184,757 per bhari, while traditional or legacy-system gold wraps up the index at a set valuation of BDT 150,932 per bhari.
The sudden drop comes on the heels of a massive price hike executed just last Friday (July 3), when BAJUS spiked gold rates by BDT 4,374 per bhari. That previous surge had driven the premium 22-carat bracket to an all-time record peak of BDT 228,556, meaning the latest revision effectively erases most of the weekend gains.
With this latest market intervention, the domestic gold pricing grid has witnessed an unprecedented 87 statutory revisions within the current calendar year alone. The metrics indicate an exceptionally volatile fiscal environment, where prices were elevated across 43 distinct phases, reduced in another 43 instances, and dynamically adjusted once for baseline VAT integration.
Market stakeholders and jewelry exporters anticipate that the price reduction will stimulate consumer traffic ahead of the upcoming wedding and festival seasons. BAJUS emphasized that it will continue monitoring both international gold spots and domestic liquidity to ensure stable retail practices across the domestic economic landscape.
