Mahbub Saikat elected president, Sanbir Rupol GS of BDJA

The biennial general meeting and Iftar party of the Barishal Divisional Journalist Association (BDJA) were held on Monday at a restaurant in the BTMC building in Dhaka. During the event, a new executive committee for the 2026–2028 term was formed, where Mahbub Saikat, Planning Editor & Chief Reporter of My TV, and Sanbir Rupol, Special Correspondent of Somoy TV, were elected as President and General Secretary, respectively.

The election process was overseen by a commission led by Abu Saleh Akon, President of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU). Other members of the commission included Mustafa Akmal, Chief News Editor of Independent TV, and Nazrul Islam Mithu, former President of DRU. The newly elected leaders pledged to strengthen the organization’s activities and work for the welfare of journalists from the Barishal division working in Dhaka.

Other key members of the executive committee include Senior Vice-President M.M. Badshah (Bangla TV), Vice-President KZ Sohel (Bangla Vision), Senior Joint Secretary Mahbub Jewel (Asian TV), and Organizing Secretary Burhan Uddin (Dhaka Mail). The committee also includes prominent journalists from various national media outlets as executive members to ensure diverse representation.

The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad, and Nizam Uddin, President of the Barishal Metropolitan Chamber. Senior journalists and former leaders of the association also spoke at the meeting, congratulating the new leadership and expressing optimism for the future of the organization.
