In a significant move toward administrative justice, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced on Monday that approximately 650 Sub-Inspectors (SI) and Sergeants, whose appointments were revoked in 2006, will finally be reinstated. Addressing journalists at the Secretariat following a high-level security meeting, the Minister assured that the long-standing grievances of these officers would be resolved in accordance with court verdicts.
Minister Ahmed noted that the files concerning these officers had been pending at the Chief Adviser’s Office. “They deserve justice. Based on the court’s judgment, the Ministry had previously recommended their reinstatement, and we are committed to ensuring they get their positions back,” he stated. He emphasized that the government is determined to rectify past political vendettas that hindered professional careers in the police force.
In addition to the reinstatements, the Home Minister directed the urgent recruitment of 2,701 police constables to fill existing vacancies and bolster national security. He also issued a stern warning against any form of illegal interference in police operations. “No one will be allowed to obstruct police work. If anyone attempts to intervene unlawfully, immediate and strict action will be taken,” he warned. This move is seen as a major step toward de-politicizing the force and restoring administrative order.
