Tensions flared within the Sunamganj unit of Jamaat-e-Islami on Tuesday as disgruntled activists locked the party’s district office in the Hasn Nagar area. The protesters were demanding the nomination of Tofael Ahmed Khan for the Sunamganj-1 seat, opposing the 10-party alliance’s decision to nominate Mozammel Haque.
Activists claimed that Khan has built significant grassroots support across Tahirpur, Jamalganj, and Dharmapasha, making him the most viable candidate. The blockade left several leaders, including Tofael Khan himself, temporarily confined inside the building. While district leaders condemned the act as a breach of party discipline, the activists vowed to continue their protest until their demands were met.
