Chittagong Port has reported a notable increase in container handling for the fiscal year 2023-2024, with a 5.36% rise compared to the previous year.
The port managed 3.169 million TEU containers this fiscal year, up from 3.007 million TEU in FY 2022-2023.
Cargo handling also experienced a significant boost, with a 4.18% increase bringing the total to a record 12.32 million tonnes, up from 11.83 million tonnes the previous year.
Port authorities credit this growth to a surge in Bangladesh’s foreign trade despite ongoing global challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine war.
