Saudi Arabia Thwarts Missile Attacks, Warns Iran Against ‘Wrong Calculations’

In a major escalation of regional tensions, Saudi Arabian defense forces intercepted multiple ballistic missiles and suicide drones targeting key military and energy installations on Saturday, March 7, 2026. The Prince Sultan Air Base, which houses significant U.S. military personnel, was among the primary targets. Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman issued a stern warning to Tehran, advising it to avoid making “wrong calculations” regarding the kingdom’s resolve and regional stability.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the attacks extended to the critical energy sector, with drones targeting the Shaybah oil field near the UAE border and the massive Ras Tanura refinery in the east. Although the Saudi Ministry of Defense confirmed that all aerial threats were neutralized before reaching their targets, the proximity and scale of the strikes have rattled global energy markets.

The warnings from Prince Khalid came following an emergency meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Prince emphasized that such aggressive maneuvers undermine regional security. “We hope Iran understands the gravity of the situation,” he noted, reaffirming that the kingdom is prepared to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty.

Geopolitical analysts observe that the Gulf region has become a direct battlefield following recent strikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iranian-linked targets. By targeting both U.S. military assets and global oil infrastructure, the recent barrages indicate a high-stakes strategy to disrupt global economic stability.
