A Dhaka court has granted a two-day remand for Abdur Razzak bin Solaiman Riyad, a former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, in connection with the attempted murder of a student at Presidency University. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Shefatullah passed the order on Thursday (March 5, 2026), following a hearing on the stabbing incident that occurred inside the university premises.
The victim, Nirjan Sardar Badhon, alleged in his complaint that Riyad instructed his associates to attack him with chairs before personally stabbing him in the face with a switchgear knife. The assault reportedly took place in the presence of the university proctor. Police arrested Riyad and three others on February 26 immediately after the incident. While the court allowed the interrogation of Riyad in police custody, the other three suspects were sent to jail.
Riyad, who was previously arrested in July 2025 for allegedly demanding extortion from a former Member of Parliament, now faces severe legal repercussions for this university campus violence. Investigating officers noted that the remand is crucial to identify unidentified accomplices and uncover the full motive behind the brutal attack.
