In a deeply emotional scene, Rakibul Islam Jomadder, an imprisoned leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was granted temporary parole to attend his father’s funeral prayers and burial in Nalchity Upazila. Rakibul, the Organizing Secretary of the Subidpur Union BCL, has been in custody in connection with a political case. Following his father Musharraf Jomadder’s demise on Thursday morning, his family applied for emergency parole, which was approved by the local administration for a limited window.
The funeral took place on Thursday evening at the family graveyard in Kamdevpur village. Under heavy police escort, Rakibul arrived at the venue to pay his final respects. The presence of the young leader in handcuffs, offering prayers for his deceased father, created a somber and heartbreaking atmosphere for the grieving relatives and local residents. After the burial was completed, Rakibul was immediately taken back into custody and transported to Jhalakathi District Jail as per the administration’s guidelines.
Anik Rahman Sardar, President of Nalchity Upazila BCL, expressed deep condolences, stating that losing a parent is an irreparable loss for any child and attending the funeral under such circumstances is particularly painful. Ariful Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchity Police Station, confirmed that the parole was executed following all legal protocols and the prisoner was safely handed back to the jail authorities after the rituals. This brief reunion under the shadow of bereavement has left a profound impact on the local community.
