Two police officers severely injured in machete attack

Date:

TBM Report

Two Bangladeshi police officers sustained critical injuries after being aggressively assaulted with a sharp machete while attempting to execute an arrest warrant on a fugitive in Lalmonirhat’s Chhagalnaiya/Hatibandha sub-district. Medical experts confirmed that the physiological matrix of Sub-Inspector (SI) Ruhul Amin remains highly precarious due to deep lacerations. The violent encounter transpired on Friday night (June 26, 2026) in the remote Gendukuri sector of Tongbhanga union. Lalmonirhat District Superintendent of Police, Asaduzzaman, verified the armed intervention, identifying the second casualty as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abdul Latif of the local precinct.

According to institutional law enforcement sources, the suspect, identified as Rashedul Islam alias Rashed, a resident of Gendukuri village, faced multiple outstanding judicial warrants for systemic theft and related penal offenses. Acting on actionable intelligence indicating the fugitive’s temporary repatriation to his domestic quarters, a tactical detachment led by SI Ruhul and ASI Latif launched a midnight raid. In a desperate bid to evade statutory detention and disrupt the judicial mandate, the suspect wielded a heavy domestic machete, launching an indiscriminate physical onslaught against the apprehending law enforcement detail.

Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman detailed that the weapon struck SI Ruhul Amin across his wrist, nearly severing the joint and creating profound physiological trauma across multiple nodes of his body. ASI Latif was similarly incapacitated while attempting to neutralize the assailant. Exploiting the immediate tactical destabilization of the wounded officers, Rashedul successfully breached the perimeter and evacuated the sector. Responding backup units dispatched from the Hatibandha precinct extracted the wounded personnel, initially routing them to the sub-district health complex before upgrading their transit to advanced regional treatment hubs.

Due to systemic post-traumatic escalation, SI Ruhul was transferred to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital, and subsequently moved to the Doctors Clinic (Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital) on Saturday morning for immediate micro-surgery. The district police command confirmed it is systematically managing the financial and logistical demands of the medical intervention. Meanwhile, administrative processing is underway at the Hatibandha police station to register a formal indictment for armed assault on sovereign officers, as multiple specialized tactical units are mobilized to locate and neutralize the fleeing fugitive.
