Law enforcement officials attached to the Monpura Police Station have successfully recovered 15 water buffaloes that were systematically plundered from the isolated ‘Boisha Char’ shoal. Following a targeted midnight operation on Tuesday around 8:00 PM, a specialized police squad retrieved the livestock from a dense terrain on ‘Char Nijam’—a remote, inaccessible estuarine island in the Meghna river basin. Monpura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazaharul Islam officially verified the recovery, adding that the perpetrators managed to evade arrest by retreating into the coastal wilderness before the police matrix deployed.
According to formal judicial dockets filed on Wednesday afternoon, an official livestock theft case has been instituted by Parimal Chandra Das, the chief herdsman (Bathan keeper) responsible for the security of the herd. The complaint explicitly identifies a single primary suspect: Md. Abdur Rahim (35), son of Habib Ullah, a resident of Ward 1 under the North Sakuchia Union of Monpura Upazila. Investigative units confirmed that the suspect is suspected of leading a localized ring specialized in plundering livestock from vulnerable grazing pastures scattered across the deltaic shoals.
Maritime police and local pastoral community leaders noted that these offshore shoals or chars serve as critical agrarian infrastructure for mega-herds, rendering them lucrative targets for organized maritime pirate syndicates. The 15 buffaloes under Das’s supervision were extracted from Boisha Char using modified engine trawlers during low-visibility hours. Acting on credible tactical intelligence regarding the location of the stolen property, Monpura police navigated the treacherous shipping channels to raid Char Nijam, eventually securing the entirety of the herd from an abandoned corral.
OC Mazaharul Islam stated that the recovered animals have been systematically cataloged and are being sustained under tight administrative custody pending judicial restoration to their lawful owners. Consequent to the formal registration of the criminal brief under the Penal Code, multiple coordinated tracking units have been dispatched into the surrounding coastal marshes to apprehend the absconding suspect, Abdur Rahim, and his unidentified co-conspirators. Security protocols and naval police patrolling schedules across the Bhola archipelago are being upscaled to deter future asset-raiding operations.
