A horrific case of suspected child sexual assault and homicide has emerged in the Dhobauura sub-district of Mymensingh, where the body of a five-year-old girl was recovered from the Kangsa River hours after she went missing. Although family members initially presumed the cause of death to be accidental drowning, severe physical injuries and lacerations were discovered on her body during pre-burial ablutions. Law enforcement authorities intervened post-midnight, and the body was dispatched to the Mymensingh Medical College morgue for an autopsy on Monday morning.
Investigative timelines indicate that the child vanished from the perimeter of her home around 5:00 PM on Sunday. Following a frantic search by the community, her floating body was spotted by locals at a bend in the Kangsa River, approximately 500 yards from her residence, at 7:30 PM. The family extracted the body and initiated funeral arrangements. However, the discovery of severe trauma on sensitive parts of her body during the ritual bath prompted them to halt the burial and alert the local police station immediately.
A tactical unit from the Dhobaura Police Command arrived at the scene at 12:30 AM to conduct the initial inquest (Surathal). Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam confirmed that the physical evidence points toward physical assault followed by a cover-up homicide. “Preliminary findings strongly indicate that the child was subjected to rape before being murdered and dumped into the river to destroy evidence. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime Scene Unit has been requisitioned to extract biological and forensic samples,” the OC stated.
The father of the victim recollected that his daughter had left the house after consuming snacks following the late afternoon prayers. The sudden and brutal termination of the innocent child’s life has caused profound trauma within the rural community. Police Headquarters has ordered a fast-track investigation, and specialized detective teams are executing search matrices to apprehend the perpetrators.
