Portugal national team head coach Roberto Martinez has officially unveiled his definitive 27-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, with global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo expectedly anchoring the roster. The call-up marks a historic milestone for the 41-year-old talismanic forward, who is set to feature in his record-breaking sixth consecutive FIFA World Cup tournament—an unprecedented feat in the annals of international football.
Manager Martinez has structurally formulated the tactical roster by blending robust veteran leadership with the high-octane dynamism of Portugal’s emerging generation. The squad features foundational stalwarts alongside a golden wave of young prospects who have heavily impressed across elite European club football networks this season, offering profound tactical flexibility for the grueling tournament schedule ahead.
Placed in Group K of the newly formatted global showpiece, the Seleção das Quinas will battle South American heavyweights Colombia, Asian dark horses Uzbekistan, and the physically imposing Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). Portugal will initiate their World Cup campaign on June 17 against DR Congo at the NRG Stadium in Houston. The team will remain in Houston to clash with Uzbekistan on June 23, before traveling to Miami on June 28 for a highly anticipated final group fixture against Colombia.
The tactical roster locks Diogo Costa as the premier option between the posts. The defensive frontline will be marshaled by the elite central pairing of Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo, bolstered by the inclusions of young sensations Renato Veiga and Tomas Araujo. The engine room and attacking matrix exhibit immense depth, with midfield generals Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva flanked by Vitinha, Joao Felix, Rafael Leao, and Goncalo Ramos—solidifying Portugal’s status as absolute frontrunners for the title.
