Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested three key associates of fugitive top-tier terrorist Sajjad Ali, also known as ‘Boro Sajjad,’ during a series of raids on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Authorities seized a sub-machine gun (SMG), a pistol, and a revolver from the suspects. Police officials confirmed that these weapons were used in a recent shooting at the residence of Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Chairman of Smart Group, after he refused a ransom demand of 10 million BDT.
The arrested individuals are Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury alias Imon, Mohammad Monir, and Mohammad Sayem. Among them, Imon is a fugitive convict sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious 2000 Bahaddarhat eight-murder case. According to Additional Commissioner Wahidul Haque Chowdhury, two of the recovered firearms—a Brazilian Taurus 9mm pistol and a .32 bore revolver—were looted from Dobolmurring and Pahartali police stations during the unrest on August 5, 2024. The SMG was reportedly purchased from a hill-based insurgent group in Khagrachari.
Police also discovered a disturbing video clip on Imon’s phone showing new recruits taking an ‘oath of allegiance’ to Sajjad’s criminal organization. The suspects admitted to orchestrating murders, extortions, and controlling sand quarries under Sajjad’s direction from abroad. Monir and Sayem already face over ten criminal cases each, involving charges of murder and robbery. The firearms have been sent for ballistic testing to further link them to the attack on the businessman’s residence.
