In a major political escalation, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has formally demanded the arrest and interrogation of former government advisors Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Khalilur Rahman. During a press conference held on Thursday at the party’s central headquarters in Moghbazar, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, accused the former officials of large-scale election engineering. The party claimed that their actions were strategically designed to prevent Jamaat from securing a legislative majority.
Taher characterized Syeda Rizwana Hasan as a “state witness” whose recent public remarks allegedly confirmed the systematic exclusion of certain political forces. He claimed that the interim government’s administration, under her influence, meticulously appointed partisan officials across the field, from District Magistrates to Presiding Officers, to tilt the electoral balance. According to Jamaat, this “designed” intervention was a direct assault on the nation’s democratic aspirations and the sanctity of the ballot box.
The party also launched a scathing attack on former security advisor Khalilur Rahman, who currently serves as the Foreign Minister. Describing him as the “architect of the London conspiracy,” Taher alleged that Rahman manipulated government policy to favor a specific political ally. Jamaat argued that his transition into a partisan ministerial role was a clear violation of the neutrality promised by the interim government. The party views his appointment as a “political reward” for orchestrating a biased electoral environment.
The press conference, attended by Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and other senior leaders, concluded with a demand for a comprehensive judicial inquiry. Jamaat leaders warned that those who sabotaged the prospect of a fair election would be remembered as “betrayers” of the people’s trust. The party emphasized that without holding these “conspirators” accountable, the integrity of the nation’s future democratic processes would remain under a shadow of doubt.
