Politicizing art and literature is not a sign of a civilized society: PM Tarique Rahman

Date:

TBM Report

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has emphasized that education, research, and the cultivation of arts and literature should never be politicized, stating that such practices are inconsistent with a civilized society. He made these remarks on Thursday (February 26, 2026) while conferring the prestigious ‘Ekushey Padak’ on eminent personalities for their outstanding contributions to various fields.

The Prime Minister asserted that his government is dedicated to establishing a liberal democratic state rooted in moral values, where every branch of knowledge—from science and technology to fine arts—can flourish independently. Recalling the history of the award, he noted that it was Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman who first introduced the Ekushey Padak in independent Bangladesh.

“February is the month of rediscovering our roots and identity,” the PM said, adding that the spirit of February 21 represents both the struggle for linguistic dignity and the movement for rights against oppression. He urged the nation’s intellectuals to provide guidance in building a prosperous and inclusive Bangladesh
