Following a landslide victory in the national elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has embarked on a mission to overhaul the nation’s governance structure. Dr. Ziauddin Haider, Advisor to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, emphasized in an exclusive interview that the government’s immediate focus is to implement tangible reforms and restore public confidence in state institutions. He noted that years of erosion in institutional integrity have made this task challenging yet essential for a new political era.
The advisor outlined a comprehensive roadmap involving constitutional changes to ensure the independence of the judiciary and re-establish a balance of executive power. Dr. Haider stressed that law enforcement agencies and the media must regain their autonomy to serve the citizens effectively. “Trust is not built overnight; it requires transparency, patience, and consistent engagement with the people,” he remarked. He called upon Members of Parliament to act as “ambassadors of reform” within their respective constituencies to ensure that the changes are felt at the grassroots level.
On the diplomatic front, Dr. Haider reiterated the “Bangladesh First” policy, aiming for a pragmatic and balanced relationship with key regional players like India, China, and Pakistan. The administration also prioritizes youth-centric governance and economic modernization to meet the demands of a changing world.
