A historic snowfall has paralyzed Russia’s Far East, with the Kamchatka Peninsula recording its heaviest accumulation in over 60 years. According to meteorologists, some areas witnessed over 2 meters (6.5 feet) of snow in the first half of January alone, following a massive 3.7-meter accumulation in December.
The extreme weather has left vehicles buried and apartment entrances blocked, forcing residents to dig their way out manually. Local photographer Ludmila Moskvicheva shared that her car has been trapped under snow for a month. Despite the logistical nightmare, social media footage shows locals embracing the winter wonderland, walking atop snowbanks leveled with traffic lights and diving into deep powder.
