The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested four suspects in connection with the high-profile murder of opposition leader Azizur Rahman Mosabbir in the capital’s Tejturibazar area.
The detainees are Jinnat (24), Md. Billal, Abdul Quadir (28), and Md. Riaz (31). According to detectives, Jinnat was one of the two shooters, while Billal coordinated the attack. Riaz conducted a reconnaissance of the site a day prior, and Quadir assisted the group in going into hiding.
The incident occurred last Thursday at approximately 8:30 PM in an alley near Hotel Super Star in West Tejturi Para. Unidentified assailants opened fire on Mosabbir, the former general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP’s volunteer wing (Swechchhasebak Dal), and another man, Sufian Bepari Masud. Doctors declared Mosabbir dead on arrival at a local hospital, while Masud remains in critical condition at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Following a murder case filed by the victim’s wife, DB launched a coordinated investigation. “We identified the suspects through CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts,” said Additional Commissioner (DB) Md. Shofiqul Islam during a press briefing at the DMP Media Center on Sunday.
The suspects were apprehended during simultaneous raids across Dhaka, Manikganj, Mymensingh, and Netrokona. Police also seized a motorcycle without a license plate and 6,000 BDT in cash. Authorities are currently conducting further operations to recover the murder weapon and determine the motive behind the killing.
