The Business Advisory Committee of the 13th National Parliament finalized the schedule and duration for its third session today. The current parliamentary session will run through September 10, 2026. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram, MP presided over the committee’s fourth meeting held at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.
Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, MP, alongside Leader of the Opposition Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, MP, actively participated in the high-level proceedings. Unless designated as public holidays, sittings will commence daily at 3:00 PM. However, parliamentary proceedings will remain suspended on August 31 and September 1. The Speaker retains full authority to adjust session timings and operational days whenever required.
Key cabinet members and parliamentary leaders attended the meeting, including Local Government Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, MP; Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, MP; Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, MP; and Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam, MP. Prominent opposition figures present included Deputy Leader of the Opposition Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, MP; ATM Azharul Islam, MP; and Opposition Chief Whip Md. Nahid Islam, MP. Senior leaders Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, MP, and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, MP, also joined, while Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaisar Kamal, MP, attended upon special invitation.
Parliamentary Secretariat statistics indicate substantial legislative business lined up for the session. Lawmakers submitted 2,818 total questions, comprising 142 directed to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and 2,676 targeting various cabinet ministers. Additionally, members submitted 81 notices under Rule 71 regarding matters of urgent public importance, alongside 249 notices for private members’ resolutions under Rule 131.
The committee reviewed tentative schedules and duration outlines for upcoming parliamentary sessions over the next calendar year. Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, provided administrative support throughout the session, accompanied by senior secretariat officials.
Treasury and opposition benches reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining structured debates and functional legislative processes during this third session.
