The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 11 police officers, including four inspectors, for allegedly embezzling over BDT 39.4 million from the Jhalakathi Police Lines ration center. The case was formally lodged on Thursday (March 12, 2026) at the ACC’s Pirojpur integrated district office by Assistant Director Md. Zakir Hossain. The investigation revealed a sophisticated forgery scheme involving 252 fake ration cards, which operated undetected for nearly eight years.
According to the case statement, the accused officers utilized fraudulent documents to withdraw rations consistently between 2013 and December 2021. The scam resulted in a total loss of BDT 39,440,885 to the government exchequer. The high-ranking officers involved include Inspectors Arif Mahmud, Al Mamun, Rezaul Karim, and Kazi Rajiul Zaman, along with several constables and warehouse assistants who allegedly facilitated the systematic theft of state resources.
ACC Assistant Director Md. Zakir Hossain emphasized that the accused exploited their official positions to commit fraud and deception. The charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1947. He further noted that the investigation remains ongoing, and any other individuals found complicit in this financial misconduct will be added to the charge sheet in due course.
Commenting on the situation, Jhalakathi Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman stated that while the accused are currently stationed in various districts across the country, the department will take strict disciplinary action once the allegations are proven. This incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced digital oversight and rigorous auditing within the police logistical framework to prevent such long-term misappropriation of public funds.
