Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially declared May 10 as ‘Marka-e-Haq Day’ to commemorate Pakistan’s military response during last year’s escalated conflict with India. Speaking on Sunday (May 10, 2026) at a high-profile event marking the first anniversary of the encounter, the Prime Minister emphasized that the date will henceforth be observed annually to honor the “historic and fitting response” given by the Pakistani armed forces against enemy forces.
The term ‘Marka-e-Haq,’ which translates to ‘The Battle for Truth,’ has been consistently used by Islamabad to define the four-day-long intense military standoff between India and Pakistan in 2025. Addressing the gathering, Sharif asserted that the defense and sovereignty of the nation remain non-negotiable. He lauded the courage of the military personnel who, according to him, demonstrated unparalleled resilience in safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country.
The Prime Minister further indicated that the government intends to institutionalize May 10 as a day of national significance. The move is seen as an effort to instill a sense of pride and patriotism among the citizens, highlighting the strategic capabilities of the defense forces. “Our forces have set a precedent in defending our borders, and this day will serve as a permanent reminder of their ultimate sacrifice and success,” Sharif remarked during his keynote address.
While the declaration aims to bolster domestic morale, international analysts believe the institutionalization of the conflict as ‘Marka-e-Haq Day’ may further complicate diplomatic ties in the South Asian region. By cementing the narrative of military superiority through an annual national day, Islamabad is signaling a firm stance on its defense policies. The day is expected to be marked across Pakistan with seminars and military ceremonies to educate the public on the events that transpired during the 2025 conflict.
