Husband surrenders to police with Child after murdering wife in Chattogram

A tragic domestic incident in Chattogram’s Patenga area resulted in the death of a young housewife, Haliama Akter, who was fatally stabbed by her husband, Jahirul Islam, on Saturday night. Following the brutal attack, Jahirul surrendered to the local police station while carrying their four-year-old child.

According to police and local sources, the couple had been experiencing marital discord for nearly a month. Jahirul, a former migrant worker in the Middle East who later became a transport worker, allegedly engaged in a heated argument with his wife over a minor domestic issue involving cooking. During the altercation, Jahirul stabbed Haliama in the head with a sharp knife. Although she was rushed to the Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Immediately after the incident, Jahirul called the national emergency service, 999, to report the crime. He then traveled to the Patenga police station with his toddler to turn himself in. The victim’s brother has since filed a formal murder case against Jahirul.
