Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam MP inspected major bus terminals in the capital on Saturday (March 14, 2026) to ensure safe and comfortable travels for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. During his visits to the Phulbaria, Gulistan, and Sayedabad terminals, the Minister engaged directly with home-bound passengers to inquire about ticket pricing and any potential harassment. He emphasized that the government is working relentlessly to provide a seamless travel experience for millions of citizens.
Following the inspection, the Minister informed journalists that, under the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the ministry has launched coordinated monitoring with bus owners and labor unions. To prevent overcharging, mobile courts are actively patrolling terminals, while sufficient fuel supplies have been guaranteed for public transport. The Minister assured that buses are currently maintaining schedules and adhering to government-fixed fares.
In a landmark move for passenger welfare, the Minister announced that iftar facilities would be available for fasting travelers at various toll plazas along the highways. Additionally, nearby hospitals have been placed on high alert to provide immediate medical assistance to any ailing passengers during their journey. To mitigate traffic congestion, critical construction sites have been instructed to keep functional lanes open, ensuring an unhindered flow of vehicles.
Accompanying the Minister were Habibour Rashid MP, State Minister for Railways and Road Transport; Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque, Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division; and senior leaders from transport associations. The Minister concluded by stating that the government is utilizing its maximum capacity to deliver an orderly Eid commute, expressing confidence that these measures will successfully eliminate travel bottlenecks.
