Exclusive: U.S. marines fired on protesters at Karachi Consulate, officials confirm

Date:

TBM Report

In a rare and significant escalation of force at a diplomatic mission, U.S. Marines opened fire on demonstrators attempting to storm the U.S. Consulate General in Karachi over the weekend. Two U.S. officials confirmed the involvement of Marines on Monday (March 2, 2026), marking a turning point in the regional fallout following the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The incident occurred on Sunday when a violent mob breached the consulate’s outer wall, leading to a clash that claimed at least ten lives. While it remains unclear whether the Marines’ rounds were directly responsible for the fatalities—given the presence of private security and local police—the acknowledgment of their participation highlights the perceived severity of the threat. Karachi police confirmed that shots originated from within the consulate compound as tear gas filled the surrounding streets.

Pakistan, home to one of the world’s largest Shi’ite communities, has been gripped by unrest since the news of the strikes on Iran. Public gatherings have been banned nationwide after 26 people were reported dead in clashes across the country. Video footage from the scene shows bloodied protesters fleeing as heavy gunfire rang out from the mission, while some demonstrators appeared to return fire toward the building.

The State Department has declined to comment on the incident, and the U.S. military has referred all inquiries to diplomatic channels. Roads leading to U.S. missions in Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar have been heavily fortified. Despite the government ban, religious leaders have called for renewed protests, threatening to further destabilize the already volatile diplomatic landscape in South Asia.
