The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has terminated at least ten personnel involved in the sensitive investigation into President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents. Confirmed by multiple sources on Wednesday (February 25, 2026), this move marks a significant escalation in the administrative overhaul led by Trump-appointed FBI Director Kash Patel.
These dismissals are viewed as part of an internal “purge” targeting officials who participated in the Mar-a-Lago raid or investigations into the 2020 election results. The FBI Agents Association has condemned the actions as “unlawful” and a “threat to national security,” warning that removing experienced professionals destabilizes the bureau and erodes trust in leadership. Parallel to this, the Department of Justice has also reportedly dismissed several prosecutors who led cases against the current administration.
The backdrop of this purge remains the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case, which was previously dismissed by Special Counsel Jack Smith following the long-standing DOJ policy against prosecuting a sitting president. Meanwhile, Director Kash Patel defended the restructuring, alleging that his own privacy was violated during the previous administration. This ongoing friction within the nation’s premier law enforcement agency has sparked a fierce debate over the politicization of federal investigations and the future of institutional independence in the United States.
