At least 20 passengers were injured, five of them critically, after a Dhaka-bound bus lost control and plunged into a canal in the Nagda area of Matlab South on Monday afternoon. The accident occurred on the Matlab-Gauripur road when the driver of ‘Jainpur Paribahan’ reportedly attempted to dodge an auto-rickshaw.
Locals and fire service personnel rushed to the scene to rescue the trapped passengers. According to Dr. Ratan Kumar Das of the local Upazila Health Complex, five victims were shifted to Chandpur General Hospital due to their life-threatening conditions. Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman confirmed that the driver and his assistant fled the scene shortly after the incident. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) KM Ishmam assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted into the safety violation.
