Industry leaders and policymakers have highlighted the mid-sized shipbuilding sector as a strategic pillar for diversifying Bangladesh’s export basket. At an industry dialogue titled “Anchor of Growth,” held on Saturday in Gulshan, speakers emphasized that the sector could significantly enhance industrial competitiveness and job creation if supported by the right policy framework.
Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan, President of JBCCI, attended as the Chief Guest and stressed the need for international technology transfer to integrate Bangladesh into global maritime value chains. Keynote speaker Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam of IUT underscored the importance of specialized human capital and academic research for the industry’s sustainability. The panel discussion, featuring experts from banking and maritime sectors, focused on resolving financing bottlenecks and regulatory hurdles to scale up domestic capabilities for the international market.
