The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), chaired by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has approved 25 development projects with a total estimated cost of BDT 45,191.27 crore. Of the total budget, BDT 32,018.09 crore will be secured from foreign aid, while the government will contribute BDT 10,881.40 crore from its internal funds. The session, held on Sunday, finalized 14 new initiatives, 6 revised projects, and 5 extensions.
Key highlights include major infrastructure developments such as the Chittagong Elevated Expressway and the widening of regional highways in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. In the energy sector, the first amendment to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project received formal approval. Additionally, a large-scale project for a 1,000-bed Bangladesh-China Friendship General Hospital was sanctioned to bolster healthcare services in the northern region.
The government also prioritized youth employment by approving a nationwide freelancing training program for educated job seekers in all 64 districts. Environmental conservation efforts were also addressed through six water resource management projects aimed at riverbank protection and dredging across various regions.
