Trump warns Iran of “severe consequences” over execution of protesters

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Tehran, stating that Iran will face “severe consequences” if it proceeds with the execution of anti-government protesters. This warning comes as human rights organizations report that over 2,400 people have been killed in a nationwide crackdown by Iranian security forces. Trump clarified that Washington is prepared to take “extremely harsh and influential” measures if the Iranian government carries out these death sentences.

International concern has intensified following the death sentence of 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, who was convicted after a summary trial lasting only two days. Human rights activists described the verdict as unprecedented and a deliberate tactic to spread terror. In an interview with CBS News, President Trump confirmed he is working to verify the exact death toll and has called an emergency meeting at the White House to review the escalating situation.

Human rights groups claim the fatalities include at least 12 children. Conversely, the Iranian government has acknowledged approximately 2,000 deaths but labeled the movement a “foreign conspiracy” and “terrorist activity.” Following these developments, Trump announced on social media the suspension of all bilateral talks with Iranian officials, warning them they would pay a “heavy price.”

The current unrest is regarded as the most significant challenge to the Iranian leadership since the 1979 Revolution. Triggered by currency devaluation and an economic crisis, the protests have spread to 180 cities across 31 provinces. Despite a total communication blackout, leaked social media footage showing rows of bodies underscores the severity of the crisis. While the United Nations and the international community have urged an end to the violence, Tehran maintains that such calls constitute an interference in its internal sovereignty.
