An unidentified young man, aged approximately 25, was beaten to death by a mob over theft allegations in Kurigram Sadar Upazila early Saturday. Police recovered the body from Kachichar Farajipara village in the Panchgachhi Union and have detained three local residents for questioning
According to local sources, residents spotted the man wandering suspiciously in the Farajipara area late Friday night. Suspecting him of being a thief, an angry mob intercepted and assaulted him. The victim died on the spot before law enforcement arrived.
Police reached the scene early Saturday morning to restore order and took the body into custody for an autopsy.
“We are still working to identify the victim and have sent his photograph to various police stations across the country,” said Jahangir Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station.
The OC emphasized that authorities are investigating the incident with high priority. “Taking the law into one’s own hands is a serious offense. We will take strict legal action against those responsible for the lynching,” he added.
