Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organized a massive protest rally and procession in the capital on Sunday (March 1, 2026), condemning the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and high-ranking military officials. The demonstration, held at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, drew thousands of party activists expressing their outrage over the US-Israeli coordinated strikes in Tehran.
Addressing the rally as the chief guest, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Amir ATM Azharul Islam MP characterized the attack as a direct assault on democracy and humanity. He asserted that the strikes were a result of long-standing conspiracies aimed at stalling Iran’s progress. Islam strongly criticized the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for their perceived inaction, warning that global citizens would reject these institutions if they continued to fail in their duties. He also called upon the Muslim world to unite and boycott Israeli products in response to the aggression.
The protest also served as a platform for domestic political grievances. ATM Azharul Islam issued a stern warning to the Bangladesh government following the death of a party activist, Hafizur Rahman, allegedly killed in an attack by BNP in Chuadanga. Demanding the immediate arrest of those involved, he cautioned the authorities against forcing the party onto the streets in greater numbers. The rally concluded with a large procession passing through the city’s key thoroughfares, including Paltan and Kakrail, amid heightened security.
