The United States has handed over $2.4 million worth of health equipment and medical supplies to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to bolster maternal, newborn, and child health services across the country. U.S. Embassy Dhaka Spokesperson Poornima Rai confirmed the bilateral assistance in an official statement issued on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Marking the rollout at Panchagarh District Hospital, U.S. Ambassador Brent T. Christensen presented training models for maternal and newborn care directly to Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman.
The nationwide supply drive features essential equipment including newborn warmers, breathing devices, therapeutic food for severely malnourished children, and specialized cold-chain supplies to maintain vaccine efficacy. U.S.-funded implementing partners—FHI 360, Jhpiego, JSI, and UNICEF—are actively distributing these supplies to hospitals and health centers in remote regions.
According to the U.S. Mission, this initiative aligns with the America First Global Health Strategy. The strategy focuses on forming practical partnerships to upgrade partner nations’ health infrastructure while showcasing American medical innovation.
The United States reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Government of Bangladesh to broaden access to quality medical services. The equipment aims to bridge care gaps in underserved rural communities.
This direct assistance underscores growing bilateral cooperation between Washington and Dhaka in public health, ensuring that essential medical care reaches vulnerable populations nationwide.
