Iran’s top security official, Ali Larijani, sent a decisive message to the Muslim world yesterday, reaffirming Tehran’s unwavering commitment to the struggle against the United States and Israel. In his address, Larijani criticized majority-Muslim nations for their lack of support, characterizing Iran’s current struggle as a defense against “treacherous aggression.” He warned that Tehran has no intention of relenting, regardless of the pressure from Western powers.
Appealing to a shared sense of religious duty, Larijani quoted a prominent Hadith of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH): “Whoever hears a man calling out, ‘O Muslims!’ and fails to answer him is not a Muslim.” By using this theological reference, Larijani directly challenged the legitimacy and moral standing of Islamic governments that have remained neutral or critical of Iran’s regional military activities. He argued that the current crisis demands a clear stance, leaving no room for a “middle ground.”
Larijani sought to justify Iran’s recent operations across the Middle East—actions that Gulf nations have condemned as blatant violations of their national sovereignty. Addressing these concerns with a thinly veiled warning, he asked, “Which side are you on?” This direct interrogation signals a shift in Tehran’s diplomacy, demanding loyalty from neighbors while maintaining that its actions are purely defensive and aimed at regional independence rather than dominance.
Despite the aggressive undertones, Larijani concluded with a vision of pan-Islamic unity. He assured neighboring states that Iran does not seek regional hegemony. Instead, he argued that a united Islamic front, if fully realized, possesses the strength to guarantee progress, security, and absolute independence for all member states. The message serves as both a strategic threat and a plea for solidarity as the confrontation with Israel and the US intensifies.
