TBM Report
Assuring millions of holidaymakers heading home for the upcoming Holy Eid-ul-Azha, the Minister for Road, Rail, and Water Transport, Sheikh Rabiul Alam, M.P., declared Sunday that there are no structural risks of significant schedule disruptions or catastrophic delays despite the immense load on the national railway network. Following a high-stakes surprise inspection of the Jatiya Rail Bhaban’s central hub at the Dhaka Railway Station in Kamalapur, the minister emphasized that tactical operations are being executed under maximum administrative vigilance (High Alert), utilizing existing track infrastructures and optimized locomotive rolling stocks.
Addressing a press briefing at the station platforms, Minister Alam highlighted the stark mathematical disparity between infrastructure and civic demands during festive periods. While the intercity rail fleet traditionally transports approximately 32,000 commuters daily from the capital matrix, Bangladesh Railway has scaled operations by 25 percent via the issuance of standing and ad-hoc transit permissions, elevating the daily transit throughput to nearly 40,000 passengers. The minister noted that actual aggregate demand consistently peaks past the 100,000 threshold daily, a deficit being bridged through intensive asset optimization.
Commenting on isolated delays reported during the early morning slots, the minister detailed a specific rolling-stock failure involving the Burimari Express en-route to the capital. The locomotive experienced an acute wheel-slip traction anomaly after coming into contact with agricultural straw laid out for drying across the tracks by local communities, leading to an automated engine shutdown. This operational bottleneck cascaded into a secondary delay for the outbound Kurigram Express; however, Minister Alam verified that rapid-deployment maintenance wings and strategic spare locomotives deployed at regional intersections successfully neutralized the deficit without affecting the following days’ operational Master Schedule.
The minister adamantly asserted that the structural integrity of the passenger ticketing framework has been secured through a centralized online distribution mechanism, which has completely eradicated systemic black-marketing syndicates. To reinforce transit comfort, 51 newly refurbished passenger coaches have been integrated into high-demand corridors. The current operational matrix is backed by 83 fully functional meter-gauge locomotives, with an additional two units undergoing final regulatory alignment to maximize fleet resilience and ensure a seamless, hassle-free festive transit experience across all demographic sectors.
