Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the Ministry of Health to initiate the rollout of ‘E-Health’ cards to ensure comprehensive medical services for all citizens. During a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday (March 4, 2026), the Prime Minister emphasized that digitalization is key to bringing healthcare directly to the people’s doorsteps.
Beyond the digital initiative, the Prime Minister ordered the conversion of abandoned government buildings—including 170 sites under LGED—into functional community clinics. This strategic use of existing infrastructure aims to expand the health network without the delays of new construction. “We must utilize every available resource to build a resilient healthcare system,” the Prime Minister noted, tasking the Health Minister with identifying such properties across the country.
The meeting also addressed the nation’s demographic challenges, noting that 3.4 million newborns are added to the population annually. Expressing concern over this growth, the Prime Minister called for more effective family planning measures. Additionally, the government plans to recruit 100,000 health workers—80% of whom will be women—as per their electoral manifesto. He also issued a stern warning regarding the presence of doctors in remote areas, insisting that accessibility must be uniform across Bangladesh.
