The Election Commission (EC) will announce the schedule for the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election on Thursday (11 December), EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said on Wednesday (10 December) at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon. The CEC has recorded his national address at 4:00pm Wednesday as per scheduled.
According to the EC secretary, the schedule for all 300 constituencies will be declared on Thursday. After 6:00 pm, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin is expected to address the nation and officially announce the election timetable.
Earlier on Wednesday (10 December), the Election Commission met President Mohammed Shahabuddin to brief him on the Commission’s pre-election preparations. The President reportedly expressed satisfaction with the progress and assured the EC of the highest possible support to ensure a free, fair, and participatory election. He also endorsed the EC’s decision to extend voting hours from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, describing the change as “logically justified.”
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the CEC provided the President with updates on several key areas, including the latest voter list—particularly additions made between January and 31 October—and the status of political party registrations.
A major topic of discussion was the preparation for conducting two votes simultaneously on the same day—the National Parliament Election and the national referendum (Gonovote). The EC briefed the President on technical issues such as ballot paper design and colour, ballot distribution procedures, counting methods, and findings from recent mock voting exercises.
The President also showed keen interest in the methodological and technological arrangements for out-of-country voting and domestic postal ballots. He was reportedly pleased to learn that local experts are being engaged in these processes.
“The President affirmed that the Election Commission is moving in the right direction,” Ahmed said.
