The United States has reaffirmed its position of neutrality regarding Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections, stating that it does not take sides in the democratic process. Newly appointed US Ambassador Brent Christensen emphasized today that the outcome of the polls remains exclusively for the Bangladeshi people to decide.
Following a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission headquarters, Christensen expressed optimism about the February 12 polls. “We are prepared to work with any government the people elect to represent them going forward,” the Ambassador told reporters.
The envoy noted that the CEC provided a detailed briefing on the interim government’s policies and procedures for the election. Reflecting on a recent meeting with the Chief Adviser, Christensen shared hopes for a “festive election day” where citizens can freely express their mandate. Despite the comprehensive briefing, the Ambassador declined to take further questions from the media regarding his specific views on the national political climate.
