Public Administration and Judiciary Reform Commissions Submit Reports to Chief Adviser

Desk report: The Public Administration Reform Commission and Judiciary Reform Commission have officially submitted their reports to Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus today.

Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, the head of the Public Administration Reform Commission, along with its members, and Judiciary Reform Commission Chief Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman, presented their findings to the Chief Adviser at the State Guest House Jamuna.

The submission of these reports follows the formation of the government on August 8, which established eleven commissions aimed at reforming various state sectors. Earlier in January, the Chief Adviser also received reports from the Election Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, Police, and Constitutional Reform Commissions.

The Public Administration Reform Commission had made headlines earlier, particularly after proposing a change to the promotion system for deputy secretaries. In a briefing on December 17, the commission suggested that 50 percent of deputy secretary promotions be allocated to administrative cadre officers, while the remaining 50 percent would go to officers from other cadres. Currently, the ratio stands at 75:25 in favor of administrative officers. If implemented, this change would reduce promotion opportunities for those in the administrative cadre.

The proposal sparked strong opposition from administrative officers, leading to widespread criticism and debate. In response, officials from 25 other cadres have united in protest, organizing work stoppages and human chain demonstrations. They are advocating for a uniform examination system for promotions to deputy secretary, which would ensure equal opportunities for all cadres. Currently, there are 26 different cadres in the country.
