Desk report: The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Tuesday, February 4, that the requirement for police verification during passport issuance and renewal has been officially removed.
This decision follows a meeting at the Secretariat, led by Dr. Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The meeting, which aimed to address complications related to passport processing, confirmed that the National Identity Card (NID) and birth registration would now serve as the primary documents for passport issuance. As long as these documents are accurate, there should be no obstacles to obtaining a passport.
Based on the advisory council’s recommendation, the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs has already initiated steps to remove police verification from the process. An anonymous official revealed that considerable progress was made during the meeting, and while most representatives have agreed to the change, a follow-up meeting is planned to finalize the decision.
The necessary recommendations to resolve passport-related issues were formulated, and a final official order will be issued soon based on the advisory council’s directives. The meeting saw participation from representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Special Branch of Police, and other relevant departments.
