Desk Report: The massacre of 57 army officers at Pilkhana was a premeditated act, not a spontaneous mutiny, according to Meherim Ferdousi, wife of the late Colonel Mujibul Haque. Speaking on Thursday, December 19, after submitting a formal complaint to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, she called for a thorough investigation into the tragedy.
Family members of the slain officers, including Ferdousi, alleged that the killings were systematically planned. “This was no mutiny,” Ferdousi stated. “The bodies were burned and destroyed after planned executions. Families were forcibly removed, children were beaten, and the officers were brutally killed. The truth must be revealed.”
She criticized the narrative of corruption often attached to the victims. “Some journalists unjustly accused the martyrs of corruption, which is a disgrace. These officers were honest and committed. If there were any allegations, where are the records?” she questioned.
Ferdousi emphasized that the incident was an attack on the nation’s sovereignty. “The goal was to destabilize the country by targeting its most capable officers and their families,” she said. She called for a transparent investigation and justice for those responsible.
The event also saw the participation of other family members, including Barrister Rakin Ahmed, son of the late BDR DG Major General Shakil Ahmed, and Sakib Rahman, son of Colonel Kudrat Elahi. Around 15-20 family members were present, united in their demand for accountability and justice.
