Reinforcing Beijing’s long-standing geopolitical commitment, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen announced that China remains fully prepared to extend comprehensive technical and structural assistance for the implementation of the strategic Teesta Mega Plan. Addressing a press briefing at the embassy in Dhaka on Thursday (July 2, 2026) regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming official visit to China, the envoy reaffirmed that Beijing’s policy framework on the transboundary river’s comprehensive management plan remains completely unchanged.
Ambassador Yao Wen evaluated that the Prime Minister’s impending state visit to China is poised to register a historic milestone in bilateral diplomacy, escalating mutual political trust to an unprecedented echelon. The envoy noted that this high-level diplomatic engagement will assume an instrumental role in broadening fields of strategic and commercial cooperation. While a Chinese state enterprise had previously concluded the preliminary feasibility evaluation for the Teesta Mega Project, future operations and final adjustments will be executed jointly by a designated panel of experts from both nations to ensure optimal infrastructure deployment. Furthermore, the Ambassador underlined that the proposed Bangladesh-Myanmar-China (BMC) economic corridor will function as a vital catalyst for Bangladesh’s macro-economic growth.
